Other Common Childhood Difficulties

Your Physiotherapist can treat any condition which prevents your child from normal physical development.

Sometimes there is no diagnosis but you feel there is something not right with your child. Your physiotherapist is able to assess to see if there is anything to worry about or, more often than not, to reasure you that there is nothing serious underlying your concerns. Often a quick burst of therapy can help your child catch up or enable them to progress in a more typical way. It may be worth speaking to a physiotherapist if you are concerned about any of the following symptoms and conditions to see whether an assessment is appropriate..

  • Hypermobility (lax ligaments causing loose joints)

  • Developmental and Motor Delay (delay in reaching movement milestones such as rolling or crawling)

  • Developmental Co-ordination Difficulties (the clumsy child who has difficulties with more complex

milestones such as kicking, climbing, hopping)

  • Dyspraxia (difficulty learning new skills, causing difficulties with more complex milestones)

  • Torticollis (stiff neck)

  • Plagiocephaly (flattened head)

  • Congenital (birth) abnormalities
